Start of new FWF project

17.01.2025

In January 2025, the team of Priv.-Doz. Oliver Neubauer has started with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded clinical study ‘Nitrate, exercise and vascular function in midlife women’.

This new project is aimed to investigate whether the regular intake of nitrate from beetroot juice enhances the positive effects of exercise training on vascular function, blood pressure and physical performance in women after menopause. Postmenopausal women are an important population group with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and the overall objective of this research is to examine the efficacy of this combined lifestyle-based approach to improve cardiovascular health and prevent CVD in this group.

This project is based on close collaborations between researchers and clinicians at the University of Vienna, the Medical University of Vienna, the University for Continuing Education Krems, Edith Cowan University (Western Australia), and the University of Virginia (USA). New "on board" of the team is Lara Keszleri, who conducts her doctoral studies as a part of this project. More information can be found at the FWF website (https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-radar/10.55776/KLP1075624).

The project team is currently also searching for study participants:
