In view of the current prevalence of obesity, an ongoing survey of treatment offers in Austria is highly relevant. In order to show changes and developments, the status quo 2017/18 was compared with the previous offer spectrum. Following up on surveys of care structures and their treatment offers for overweight and obese children and adolescents since 2005, the current state was surveyed in the form of a cross-sectional design between November 2017 and January 2018. In total, 127 institutions were surveyed by means of an online survey on quantitative key parameters and qualitative aspects. 71.7% of the facilities offered nutritional therapy, 28.3% exercise therapy and 33.9% behavioural therapy. Surgical treatment was performed in 9.4% of the facilities. 47.2% also offered a service in the field of prevention. 68.5% of respondents stated that they were working according to evidence-based guidelines. The proportion of interdisciplinary or otherwise cooperatively working institutions was 78.0% and 61.2%, respectively. Since 2005 there has been a trend towards exclusive individual therapy (individual therapy in 88.0%, group therapy in 42.4% of the institutions), permanent facilities (93.7%) as well as individually selectable startup appointments (83.7%) and time frames (76.8%). Nevertheless, the care structures as well as the currently offered therapy and treatment options in Austria appeared diverse. For the purpose of quality assurance and in order to document the Austria-wide care status in a representative manner, it is highly recommended to continuously monitor the further development of care facilities.
